Our Threatened Heritage

America’s visual maritime heritage is in danger.

  • Many museums display less than 1% of the marine works in their collections

  • Few have the resources to properly image and document their marine works

  • Many museums and collectors are deaccessioning and breaking up their collections for sale.

  • Many important works will never be shared with the public or properly conserved.

  • Many works held in private collections are lost each year to damage.

We want to combat this neglect of our history by:

  • Sending mobile imaging and documentation teams to museums and collectors

  • Imaging and documenting each artwork to cultural heritage preservation standards

  • Restoring, either physically or digitally, as many works as possible

  • Sharing our records with the public through virtual and national traveling exhibitions

  • Creating exhibitions to share the works with the public
